Some of us hate our current jobs beyond measure. It is not the occasional rant when there is an extra deadline or an annoying colleague.

You wake up miserable to go to work and have to fight double doses of the Sunday scaries.

You feel you are stuck, yet will not give up on this life for any of the following reasons:

1. You are addicted to the salary

Nassim Nicholas Taleb has a famous saying which goes:

The three most harmful addictions are heroin, carbohydrates and a monthly salary.

You are grateful for the monthly paycheck coming in which allows you to pay for basics and afford the life that you want.

It is obvious why a salary is addictive; you show up for a certain number of hours and a fixed amount is deposited in the bank every month.

You might complain about how excruciating painful your team environment is or how much your boss nags you, but come pay day you are excited and calm down for a few days.

Until the money runs out and you start whining again. The vicious cycle goes on and the scenario repeats itself…
