Avid walkers were Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf and Henry David Thoreau.
The most obvious benefit of walking is to improve physical health but there are other advantages which are more cognitive in nature:

I have been a walker for as long as I can remember. I wake up, have a coffee and go for a walk. It is part of my morning routine. Unless there is a snowstorm, I will be geared up for walking in the morning.
