4 Lessons on Success from Scaling Mountains
My recent hike confirmed that getting on top of the success ladder is similar to climbing a mountain. So all the quotes about overcoming mountains to get to where you want are true.
And the view is truly magnificent when you get there. But how long it takes you and what effort is needed are probably undervalued metrics.
1. We underestimate the time to arrival
Have you ever looked at a building from far that looks easily attainable? Doable, you say. Then halfway through, you realised it was an illusion? It feels like it’s a moving target.
That is exactly what we experienced when we saw the mountain tip from the car. The moment it appeared in our view, we were like: oh that does not look too bad. Except that a quarter of the way there, it felt unreachable.
Same with my business; the more I execute, the further the vision appears to be. When I started out, I had a rough time estimation that was massively miscalculated.
Lesson: Always add more time to your original distance to arrival, in life and in business.
