I recently learned how to ride a bike. Since my newly engaged motor skills are still raw, I decided to take the bicycle out for one last time before the season ends. The moment I got up from my desk and started packing, a mixture of surprise and awe swept through me. There it was, little flakes of snow. Plan cancelled and I went to the gym.

For anyone who lives in Quebec (or even Canada) will tell you, the weather decides your day. You are not the master of your destiny anymore.

Here are 5 ways living in Montreal and road-tripping through Quebec contributed to my self-improvement:

1.Letting go of control

I used to plan my weekends in advance. I like organised fun. I used to cringe when people told me to go with the flow and see what happens. Here, it is nearly impossible to do that (plan way in advance).

Sure, you can plan a picnic when they predict a sunny day. But the climate here is crazy, it might be super cold in the morning, then you go out again and you are sweating because your clothes are too warm.

Now I am more relaxed. I still plan but just a rough canvas of my day and then I let it go, like…
