6 ways to deal with criticism on your writing, for early stage writers
I joined the Medium partnership in November and have only been consistently writing for a few weeks. My themes are based around personal development and life lessons, fairly uncontroversial.
Or so I thought. I have always spoken my truth or expressed my opinions, ever since I was a child. So, this is how I write.
What I did not expect was personal backlash so early on in my journey. For early stage writers, it is difficult enough to expose our creative works, but we are encouraged by seasoned writers who bypass the criticism and negativity thrown in their way.
In the words of Jordan Peterson:
In order to speak your truth, you have to let go of the outcome. You have to think, I am going to say what I think, stupid as I am, biased as I am, ignorant as I am. I’m going to state what I think as clearly as I can, and I am going to live with the consequences no matter what they are.
