I was brought up to be a strong, independent woman. I grew up with the idea of being financially and mentally strong. And I am very proud of that and I would not give it up for the world.

But the more i experience the world, the more it seems that being a strong, independent woman is a goal to be achieved. Because we have been tagged as the ‘lesser’ gender by society for too long, it makes sense to show strength and that we are so capable.

What I realised is that a strong, independent woman is formed through her trials and struggles, not through financial independence and not needing anyone.

Last year, I announced to my friends that I am giving up the title of strong, independent woman to be known as interdependent and kind woman. One year down the line, it dawned on me that I am all of them.

But there is a tendency for the modern world to brand strong, independent women as fierce go-getters who do not stop for anyone.

In modern society and access to resources, there are more and more strong, independent females. Females that are having the opportunity to tap into their potential
