A 12-hour flight or the introspection you were looking for
Some people are amazed by the fact that I used to take on average four 12-hour flights in a year (pre-covid). See I used to live on a beautiful but far away island and I caught the travel bug very early.
Now that I am Canada, it gets even weirder….7 hours to Europe, then X hours of transit then 12 hours to Mauritius.
I just got here this morning and I am so jet-lagged I feel like I have been put in the spin cycle of the washing machine twice over. But mentally, it is a different story. My head is clear.
If you are a part-time restless creature or find it hard to self-reflect, then take a 12-hour flight.
There are only so many movies you can watch, so many books you can read or work you can catch up. Even if you are with a partner and engaging in conversations. Even if you manage to catch some shut eye.
At one point, you are going to sit with yourself with nowhere to run, thousand miles in the air and it will feel like there is only you and your thoughts.
The occasional turbulences will make you realise how fragile your time on earth is. The clearing of the clouds and the different hues of the distant sunrays will…
