A Little Boy Taught Me About The World With His Broken Camera
A gentle reminder to get out of our heads and feel our blessings
It was a saturday morning and I settled in my usual coffee shop, ready to do some work. My head was elsewhere: I need to do my taxes, buy groceries, maybe send a text to my friend for a meet-up later.
Then a mom drops his cute boy on the sofa next to me while she gets some food. She gave him a camera, I guess it was broken since he made the click sound with his voice.
He starts taking pictures of every nook and cranny of the place. I followed his movements: I saw there was a green plant next to me that needed watering. ‘Was that plant there before?’, I wondered.
I also noticed how high the ceiling was when he moved his camera up. He then looked at me. I smiled and that was his cue for taking a picture of me.
I wondered what was his impression of me, stranger sitting next to him with a laptop on her lap and lost in her thoughts. But I guess he saw me as a positive support for his new passion.
Then his attention diverted to people coming in the shop. We were on the first floor with a vantage point on the ground floor. He started clicking pictures of people’s heads. I never even stopped to see the angle from…
