Toilet paper dystopia is back, this time it has a name: Omicron
There is this character in Game of Thrones called Jon Snow. He is dark and broody, and his love interest told him: “you know nothing, Jon Snow’. That is me telling the world, at least the people in charge of the pandemic, you know nothing.
With the news of the new variant, Omicron, making its way around the world, it is the toilet paper panic all over again.
One would think more than one year, and a half of experience would teach countries something? At least a properly set crisis plan. The responses have been downright drastic. Shut down borders and ban travellers.
What is truly appalling to me is the fact that it is being assumed the virus originated from South Africa when the scientists there actually discovered the variant and told the world about it. What are these African countries being punished for exactly?
Being poor or having educated scientists doing the rightful thing and informing the world? Don’t you think the responses have an element of racism?
