Finding Your Why Nots Is As Important As Your ‘Why’
Ever since I discovered Simon Sinek and his find your why mantra, I see the word everywhere. Does it work? It absolutely does, especially on a corporate level.
In the book of the same name, the author uses the Company Apple as an example and goes on to describe how Apple found its why and that is the reason for its tremendous success.
In the same way, we can get closer to our purpose by deciphering our own why.
I found my ‘why’ years ago; it is to impact people to transform into their best selves just as I have (and still doing) in my own life. Yet, I think this concept has important pieces missing to complete the picture.
I explain.
Say your why is helping poor kids off the street, meaning your purpose could be a reduction in child poverty. Now, a rich ambassador wants to help out financially in your endeavour but he is a known tiger hunter.
You are against animal killing of any kind and you are also a vegan and environmental activist. Will you take his money? Probably not. That is your why not.
An example that is a bit out there but I make my point.
