This has not yet been classified as a disease, but it is definitely a modern-day affliction. I am a recovering patient.

What is Shiny Object Syndrome?

According to Wikipedia: “Shiny Object Syndrome also called SOS, is a pop-cultural, psychological concept where people focus on a shiny, new object, in other words whatever is most current, trendy or the latest concept, regardless of how valuable or helpful it may ultimately be”.

It also mentions that people who have FOMO (fear of missing out) will be more prone to this.

I think it affects all of us due to the current nature of the modern world.

There are simply too many choices available to us and they are all fighting for equal footage in the spotlight.

Shiny object syndrome is the ultimate distraction affecting writers, business owners but above all anyone with many interests and who cannot focus on one interest for too long.

That used to be me. While being a generalist in nature is definitely helpful in the bigger picture, I have to fight ‘new objects’ every day, like Neo dodging bullets (The Matrix…
