According to Wikipedia, productivity is the efficiency of production of goods or services expressed by some measure.

As a society we are obsessed with human productivity. If we go back to Eco 101, productivity measures output per unit of input. Many corporates use the concept of utilisation rates to assess individual performance.

As humans, we want to do it all. Measure output of other resources; animals, plants, machinery, you name it. But that is not enough. We created systems where we could also identify ourselves as resources and measure our own productivity.

Slightly sad, if you ask me. Necessary to maximise human resource (and tap into their potential of course), if you ask any corporate.

In my own life, I was obsessed with efficiency. I always tried to find the smartest, quickest, most affordable way to do things. Which meant I was in production mode from Monday to Sunday. If I did not ‘produce’ something worthwhile on any day, I would feel as though the day was wasted.

There was a certain retaliation that occurred during the early stages of the pandemic when work retreated inside our homes.
