Is the word feminism being abused and misappropriated in the dating world?

My recent dating experiences would lead me to think so.

For those of you who have not followed my stories, I moved to Canada over a year ago, leaving everything behind. Including a budding relationship. After 6 months here (in Canada) and getting over my heartbreak, I decided to start dating again. Fun times. I saw a ton of new words being thrown in the profile section of online dating sites.

Damn, my English must be so outdated, I thought. Whatever does ethically non-monogamous mean? Like you sit for a sustainable and eco-friendly relationship course and decide it does not defy the laws of morality to have multiple partners? Anyway, I would keep those debates for later. To each their own. Live and let live right?

What bothered me was my own experiences with people I grew to like. Most guys who took an interest to me defined themselves as ‘feminists. I have a lot ‘feminist’ male friends, so I love the idea of getting to know similar men. Except I got the sense that the word was being used to act in their favour.

For one, the word meant that he supports women and especially the idea that women can have sex with whomever they please and he can do the same. At no point, did he entertain the idea that I wanted a traditional, monogamous…
