December 2019 — the period of calm before the storm

The story starts in December 2019, it was time to start planning my big departure to Canada. After all it took me 2 years and I nearly forgot about it. Around the same time, a distant virus was detected in China. Nobody cared, it is only in China.

At that point I was traveling to Europe via Dubai for work. In Dubai airport, I started coughing mildly .

On New Year’s Eve in London, I was on my friend’s couch, coughing and puffing like crazy, with fever and chills . Was its corona or was it the flu? One will never know.

In December, it still seemed like it was an Asian virus that would be contained.

Early March 2020 — My 3 outbound flights, fearful warrior mode

Fast forward to end of Feb 2020, my big departure! I had booked my ticket, again via Dubai and London. People at home thought I was crazy. You should cancel, they said.

Why are you traveling? All the flights will be cancelled. Do you think you can travel? Do you think it is safe to travel? What if you cannot come back? Ah the comments.

By then, the virus had started making its way out of China but masks and all were not…
