New Writers, Embrace Your Forrest Gump and Watch Your Writing Evolve
I started writing on Medium in 2019.
It was a place to park my random musings to send to friends instead of forwarding word documents on WhatsApp.
In 2021, I got inspired by my one year in Canada and wrote about it. I loved the responses and started taking Medium seriously. But it was still infrequent writing.
In December 2021, I quit my job and started writing as a means of dealing with the emotional stress of leaving the corporate life.
I have not stopped ever since. But I write about what I want and what I feel like writing. I am in competition with no one but my writer-self yesterday.
Does it take longer to get to where you want this way? Yes. But I am a Forrest Gump fan.
What does Forrest Gump have to do with writing?
So this is my message to new writers: Be like Forrest Gump. If he was a writer, it would be:
Write Forrest Write.
