Nobody reads anymore and other lies keeping us stuck
I only started writing consistently on Medium since last December.
My real journey started a year and a half ago when I posted my first article. I was so excited and shared it with everyone.
Nobody in my circle writes so I got half-hearted comments. They will only take my excitement seriously if I say I obtained a job as a writer where they are paying me X amount monthly. A real job.
I was having a walk with a distant cousin and he said: “you know, nobody reads anymore”.
See at that point, I still aspired to be a writer in the long term. I was going to be the female Ernest Hemmingway in a cute cosy cabin in the wilderness of British Columbia (without the drinking part).
I was not going to stop writing, at least for myself, but his comment struck a chord. People believe their own lies and they pass it on to you.
