Stop adding a disclaimer to your personality, you are a masterpiece in progress
There is an Instagram quote that marked me a lot: ‘You are allowed to be a work-in-progress and a masterpiece at the same time”.
Yet we all tiptoe around life, afraid that if people saw all of our sides, they will freak and run away. We fear that if we are being totally ourselves, we will end up alone or ostracised.
As an outspoken and opinionated woman, born in a society where making waves is seen as being too much and too aggressive, I used to add a disclaimer sign to my personality. Nobody wants to be exiled form their own community.
I would carefully weigh my words, being articulate but at the same time not try to offend anyone. It was a lot of work and draining.
What helped me get over this phase was the fact that I lived in four different countries and interacted with different cultures. I realised that what I was saying was in fact very welcome in certain cultures.
So as much as I worked on gathering cultural sensitivity, I also stopped giving warning signs about my personality.
