Have you ever had one of those days where you have a million things to do but you cannot get out of bed?

The sheer number of tasks awaiting to is enough to make you apprehensive about the day ahead.

You read a few motivational Instagram posts for a quick pep talk and feel better. But somehow there is a layer of panic and you fear that the day is going to run you instead of the other way around.

I have found myself in those situations a few times. No amount of previous organisation, planning or anticipating problems would have helped.

It is simply one of those days where there is too much going on. Such is life.

And if you are extremely lucky (sarcasm intended), you will also be going through some personal issues at the same time. Yup, that also happened to me.

It is almost counterintuitive as your body knows we got to get a move on yet stays stuck. Our mind diverges in too many directions and refuses to focus.

The first thing to do in this case, is to take a step back and acknowledge the things you will do usually but take for granted.

I got out of bed. Check.

I got ready. Check.

Keep going for every little action you take for yourself.

Meditate and take some deep breaths, just for a few mins. I find this to be the hardest task when I am overwhelmed. But this is the antidote to the frenzy.

This is how you start taking back control of the day. You are saying to the universe, I know it is chaos, but I choose to begin in peace.

Then, when you finally have transitioned from a living corpse to a semi-functional adult, tell yourself this:

It is going to be OK. Yes, it is a tough day ahead, but I do not need to do everything expected of me. I am human and can only do my best, especially considering my current state.

Repeat a few times.

After that, you ask yourself this question. This changed the way I run days of overwhelm because it gets rid of the guilt…
