The more I introspect, the more I recognise the voices in my head. And geez, they are so vile. The sad part is that the voices are what we all have in common, just with differing degrees of harshness.

The happy part is that we can train ourselves to be aware of them. It is almost a skill: learning to identify them, especially during negative states. And usually, they hit hardest during adversity. So, if we are conscious of them, we can also choose our own interpretations and their value in our life.

The inner critic

We all have one (or many versions). It belittles us and tells us we are not good enough. It judges us and not like the one in court, its judgement is biased and unfair. It is a stubborn child stuck in negativity.

It shows up in many forms: the superego, the saboteur and as the worst critic on earth. It can cause damage if left unchecked as it instils a deep sense of fear and make us question our own capabilities.

No matter how successful we are, it can bring us down in a minute. It does not care about our achievements or our contributions to the world. It can destroy our self-esteem or stop us dead in our tracks when trying to attempt something…
