We Became So Good At Surviving That We Forgot How To Live
The context
One of my favourite philosophies in my life both professionally and personally is Ikigai. For the non-initiated, it is a Japanese concept that guides you towards finding meaning in your life.
One of the questions involved is what are you really good at? When used in a career search scenario, it is helpful to identify your skills and innate strengths.
I like to revisit my Ikigai every year and that particular question brought an additional answer this year: what am getting really good at is surviving.
On Survival jobs
I was talking to my friend at an NYE gathering about her goals and vision for next year (the current one). And she said she would like to move from a survival job to one that she liked.
How many of us are stuck in survival jobs and can’t get out?
The endless cycle of paying bills and catering for expenses while postponing what we really want to do for next time. Except that time never comes: it becomes a vicious cycle of existential crises and postponements.
