Have you had moments in your workday where you felt like you would have been more productive if only you were not constantly interrupted or pestered?

Daily distractions are inevitable: email notifications, phone calls, calendar pings for upcoming meetings and so on.

But these can be controlled; with good time management we can time block, put notifications on silent and use other techniques to deal with distractions.

However, there is one particular instance where it becomes very tricky: having a micromanaging boss or someone who interrupts you constantly.

It is so hard to tell your higher-up that he or she is interfering with your precious productive hours.

How do you tell a boss that his constant input is not helping?

It is important to understand the roles at play: a boss is here to review your work, provide support, validate your work and/or make sure different staff are doing what they are supposed to.

Your job is to produce the work to the best of your ability and the best way to do that is to be fully focused on your craft.
